Preheat oven to 450°F. P lace pears cut side down on a baking sheet. Brush with 1 tablespoon canola oil and sprinkle with sugar. Bake for 25 minutes, turning after 15 minutes. Toss cabbage with white vinegar, granulated sugar and brown sugar. In a large skillet cook onion in 1 tablespoon canola oil 5 minutes. Add cabbage and 1/3 cup water; cook 25 minutes, covered, stirring occasionally. Season with salt, pepper, ginger and cloves; cook 5 minutes, uncovered. Place pears over cabbage and serve.
