Preheat oven to 375°F. Combine granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon flour in a large bowl. Stir in plums. Divide fruit among six 6-ounce custard cups or ramekins. Place custard cups on a 15-by-10-inch baking pan.
Combine oats, brown sugar, the remaining 2 tablespoons flour and nutmeg (or ginger or cinnamon) in a small bowl. Stir in oil until topping resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in bacon. Evenly sprinkle over fruit in cups.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, just until fruit is tender and topping is crisp and golden brown. Serve warm with ice cream for dessert or without ice cream for breakfast.
