Island Coffee Frappe

The distinct island flavors of allspice and rum are captured in this frozen coffee beverage.

INGREDIENTS

Servings: 4 (1 cup)

Ingredients

  • Step 1
  • 1 seedless orange, peeled and cut crosswise into 4 slices
  • 8 tablespoons sugar, divided
  • 1/2 cup ground medium or dark roast coffee, (regular or decaffeinated)
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups crushed ice substitution Substitutions available
    • small ice cubes
  • 1/2 cup black rum
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon McCormick® Ground Allspice
  • Whipped cream

INSTRUCTIONS

  • 1 Place orange slices on foil-lined baking pan. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of the sugar. Broil 4 to 6 inches from heat for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown on each side. Set aside.
  • 2 Place ground coffee in filter in brew basket of coffee maker. Add water to coffee maker; brew as directed. Cool coffee to room temperature.
  • 3 Pour coffee into blender container. Add ice, rum, cream, 2 of the charred orange slices plus any juices from the pan, remaining 6 tablespoons sugar and allspice; cover. Blend on high speed until smooth. Pour into beverage glasses. Cut remaining 2 orange slices in half; skewer with party toothpick. Garnish beverages with whipped cream, a sprinkle of additional ground allspice and a skewered orange slice.

TIPS AND TRICKS

Variation: Prepare as directed. Add 1 pint softened vanilla ice cream or coconut gelato to blender container. Decrease sugar in beverage from 6 tablespoons to 2 tablespoons and ice from 2 cups to 1 cup. Omit heavy cream.
