Here's How to Make Pumpkin Butter, the Trendiest Toast Topping for Fall

PureWow

When the weather gets chilly and the leaves start to fall, we start craving warm, spicy, pumpkin-y flavors—and we’re not sorry about it. Our latest obsession? Pumpkin butter. It’s basically the autumnal toast topping of our dreams, and luckily, it’s super easy to make at home.

What you’ll need: Two cans of pumpkin puree (not the kind labeled “pie filling”), a third of a cup of brown sugar, two tablespoons of maple syrup, three quarters of a cup of unsweetened applesauce, two teaspoons of lemon juice, three teaspoons of pumpkin spice, about a half a teaspoon each of ground cinnamon and ground ginger, a healthy pinch of salt and one and a half teaspoons of fresh ginger, peeled and grated.

How to make it: Combine everything in a medium saucepan or pot and simmer at medium heat for about 30 minutes. (Yep, it’s that easy.) Once it’s cool, you can keep the spread in your refrigerator for about two weeks.

How to use it: On anything and everything. We’re partial to toast, oatmeal, yogurt…you get it.
