PROUD TO SUPPORT OUR FARMERS
Vanilla is a cherished global flavor, derived from the vanilla planifolia orchid. Each flower must be hand-pollinated, and once the pods form, they undergo a long process—ripening, harvesting, curing, and aging—before becoming the pure vanilla extract you enjoy today.
Our quest for flavor begins with vanilla farmers. Read on to learn more about how McCormick is supporting that community.

IMPROVING INCOME RESILIENCY FOR THOUSANDS OF FARMERS
McCormick supports over 16,000 vanilla farmers in Madagascar and Indonesia through direct sourcing programs developed in partnership with local entities. These initiatives provide agricultural training, access to finance, and youth entrepreneurship opportunities, while helping improve crop yields, product quality, farmer livelihoods, and supply chain transparency.

SUPPORTING EDUCATION IN FARMING COMMUNITIES
Our commitment goes beyond supporting farmers to also uplifting the broader community, with a focus on children’s education. In Madagascar, McCormick has helped build or restore seven rural schools and, since 2017, has distributed over 15,000 school kits—positively impacting the education of around 5,200 children in vanilla farming communities.

PROVIDING ACCESS TO SERVICES
Supporting access to essential services like healthcare and financing is key to strengthening vanilla farming communities. In Madagascar, McCormick funds programs that have provided health insurance to 12,000 farmers and facilitated over $600,000 in interest-free loans. Additionally, around 80 village savings and lending associations have been established to promote financial inclusion and community resilience.

As a global leader in flavor, McCormick is committed to promoting the continuous improvement of sustainable sourcing of herbs and spices. As part of this commitment, each year our goal is to source more vanilla through our Grown for Good program.
- McCormick launched the Grown for Good framework in the 2019, which outlines our theory of change to drive impact through sustainable sourcing.
- Grown for Good stands for a vision in which the lives and livelihoods of farmers and farming communities are not just protected but enhanced. It is a system that conserves and enriches the local and global environment and builds resiliency across the entire farming system.
- To create impact at scale, numerous McCormick initiatives have been awarded funding from international development agencies such as USAID, USDA and GIZ (German International Development Agency), and to date have benefited almost 23,000 farmers, including over 16,000 Madagascar and Indonesia vanilla farmers, their families, and the wider farming communities across our herbs and spices portfolio.
