  • 1 1/2 cups long grain white rice
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil - Substitutescanola oil
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 cup Cholula® Original - Medium Salsa
  • 2 teaspoons Cholula® Original Hot Sauce - SubstitutesCholula® Extra Hot Sauce
  • 2 1/2 cups chicken stock - Substitutesvegetable stock or water
  • Salt, to taste

  1. Place rice in fine mesh strainer and rinse under cool water until water runs clear. Drain very well.
  2. Heat oil in large saucepot on medium heat. Add rice; sauté 3 - 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until rice begins to toast and is lightly browned. Stir in tomato paste, Original Salsa and Original Hot Sauce until well blended.
  3. Increase heat to medium-high. Stir in stock and bring to boil. Reduce heat to low, cover and cook 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand 5 minutes. Fluff rice with a fork. Season with salt, if desired. Serve hot.


TIPS:

  • For less saucy rice, use only 3/4 cup of Cholula® Original Salsa. For milder rice, skip the addition of the Cholula® Original Hot Sauce.
  • Don't have chicken or vegetable stock on hand? Use 2 1/2 cups of water instead. 
  • Try stirring in 1/2 cup of frozen, thawed peas when you're ready to fluff the rice. Let stand 5 minutes longer to allow the peas to warm before serving.
