Melt butter in large saucepan on medium heat. Add onions; cook and stir 20 minutes or until golden brown. Add Gravy Mix and water.
Bring to boil on high heat. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve with crusty bread topped with melted Swiss cheese, if desired.
I enjoy the deep flavor of French onion soup when I get it at one of my favorite restaurants, but had a hard time getting the same flavor when I made it at home. I saw this recipe, and tried it...I was surprised how good it was!
