Preheat oven to 350°F. Beat butter in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add 1/2 cup of the sugar, vanilla, nutmeg and salt; beat until well blended. Stir in flour and pecans.
Shape into 1-inch balls. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheets.
Bake 15 minutes. Remove from baking sheets. Immediately roll hot cookies in remaining 2 cups sugar. Place sugared cookies on wire racks to cool. When cool, roll again in sugar.

I was wondering. Would it be possible to add Christmas decorating sugar to the powdered sugar before you roll them the second time? Would that be pretty? Would it work?

The pecan balls were fantastic! Soft, melt-in-your-mouth, nutty flavor. The only change I made was, chopped the pecans finely & used only 1 cup of pecans.

Delicious! I love this recipe! Great cookies to bring to a gathering, although my kids always want to keep them for themselves!

I must have tried 2 or 3 different recipes for these over the years. This is by far the best. It's the easiest, tastiest, and more compliments than any of the others. I am putting the other recipes in the trash and will go in my cookbook under "Mom's favorites."

An A recipe in my cookbook. I made these cookies and my kids ate them up and took the rest for friends. These are the best tasting Pecan cookies and believe me I have tried a few different recipes. Great for the holidays! Making more very soon.

Good recipe, but next time I will cut down the nutmeg to 1/4 or 1/8 tsp. There was a little too much nutmeg for my liking. I liked the consistency. They were light and buttery. I also did not cook them as long as suggested - 13 minutes max was good in my oven.

They fall apart when placed into the powdered sugar. Any suggestions?
