Rice is a major Louisiana crop and a kitchen staple. This beloved dish evolved as home cooks discovered that adding spices and leftover meat would yield rice that tastes a whole lot better – even if it looks a little “dirty.” 

Dirty rice is infused with flavors of onion and bell pepper. The dish is traditionally prepared with giblets, but Zatarain’s Family Size Dirty Rice Mix is delicious with ground beef, ground pork, ground turkey or any other meat of your choosing. Enriched Long Grain Parboiled Rice (Rice, Iron, Niacin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Folic Acid). Sea Salt, Onion, Salt, Red & Green Bell Pepper, Garlic, Yeast Extract, Spices (Including Red Pepper), Soy Sauce (Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Corn Syrup Solids, Salt), Monosodium Glutamate (Flavor Enhancer), Caramel Color, And Paprika.

Usage tips

Add 1 1/2 lb. cooked ground beef to complete your meal.

STOVE TOP DIRECTIONS
1. BROWN 1 1/2 lb. ground beef in 3-quart saucepan. Drain fat.
2. STIR 3 3/4 cups water, Rice Mix and 2 tbsp. vegetable or olive oil (optional) into saucepan until well blended. Bring to boil. Reduce heat to low. Cover.
3. SIMMER 25 minutes or until rice is tender.
4. REMOVE from heat. Let stand 5 minutes. Fluff with fork before serving.

MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS
1. MIX 3 3/4 cups hot water, Rice Mix, 1 1/2 lb. ground beef, cooked and drained, and 2 tbsp. vegetable or olive oil (optional) in 3-quart microwavable bowl until well blended. Cover.
2. MICROWAVE on HIGH 5 minutes. Stir. Microwave on MEDIUM (50% power) 20 minutes or until rice is tender, stirring occasionally. Let stand in microwave 5 minutes. Fluff with fork before serving.

Microwave ovens vary; adjust cooking times as needed. Cooking times are based on an 1100 watt microwave oven.

CAUTION: Bowl and contents will be very hot. Use pot holders when removing from microwave.
