Tie Dye Cake

This tie dye cake is not difficult to prepare because you start with a cake mix and canned frosting. Get the cool colors with McCormick® Assorted NEON! Food Colors & Egg Dye.

  • Prepare cake mix as directed on package, using egg whites. Divide batter evenly among 4 medium bowls. Add vanilla and 20 drops (about 1/4 teaspoon) neon purple food color to first bowl. Add raspberry flavor and 20 drops (about 1/4 teaspoon) neon blue food color to second bowl. Add lemon extract and 20 drops (about 1/4 teaspoon) neon pink food color to third bowl. Add orange extract and 20 drops (about 1/4 teaspoon) neon green food color to fourth bowl. Stir until batters are evenly tinted.

  • Drop tablespoonfuls of batter randomly into 2 greased and floured 8-inch round cake pans. Bake as directed on package. Cool cakes on wire rack.

  • Fill and frost cake layers with white frosting.

Cooking tip

• For easier measurement, 1/4 teaspoon Food Color = 20 to 25 drops

• For easier mixing and pouring, divide plain batter evenly among 4 resealable plastic bags. Add extracts and food colors as directed. Knead bags until batters are evenly tinted. Cut a tip off corner of each bag. Squeeze tablespoonfuls of batter into cake pans.

    This is a fun cake to make every once in awhile. No child or adult is going to die (sorry about the pun) by eating a piece of this cake. Stop with the scare tactics.

    Cake itself is ok. Couldn't eat the frosting at all. It was so sweet it turned my stomach. Nobody in my family could eat the frosting.

    My mother made this cake when I was a little girl for my birthday. Only she baked in a heart shaped cake pan. She used chocolate frosting cause that was my favorite. When it was cut ooh how beautiful. You just don't eat with your taste buds, you eat with your eyes. Mmm It was so good. I hope this is as good as my mum's.

    I believe my mum originated this cake as her Easter cake over 60 years ago. Now McCormick is coming out with it and calling it their tie dye cake. Sorry but I have to tell you it is our family Easter cake and recipe has been in our family for eons. she usually made it into a sheet cake.

    And then be surprised why kids have allergies and other health issues. No one should eat artificial food colors and most definitely not give it to their children. Teach children to low the natural beautiful colors of fresh food. Put pure berries and fruit on their cakes and into their tummies not harmful chemicals to fill some greedy company's pockets.

    Gross!! Artificial color and poison!! No Thanks. Organic natural cakes with organic flour, butter, milk, vanilla and chocolate. No need to kill the people I love. !!
