One-of-a-kind, fun, flavorful, resilient, welcoming – our company has a lot in common with the city we call home. This is no big surprise. For more than 125 years, Zatarain’s products have been made in New Orleans by New Orleanians for New Orleanians. More than being experts on New Orleans food and flavor, we are a part of the city’s culture, and the city defines who we are. It’s been that way for a long time.
Over the decades, our flavors have traveled far and wide. Today we are the world’s leader in New Orleans-style food. Whether Zatarain’s is helping to spice a crawfish boil in Baton Rouge or to complete a Tuesday night family meal in Chicago, the brand can be counted on to deliver the flavor and fun that can only come from New Orleans.
Building a Local Favorite
When Emile A. Zatarain began experimenting in his small shop in Uptown New Orleans in 1889, he knew his flavors would have to be big and bold. His local customers would accept nothing less. It wasn’t long before he had a hit – his signature root beer caught on quickly, and his mustards and pickled vegetables would soon follow suit. The company has added great variety over the years – spices, seafood boils, fish fry, rice mixes, frozen favorites and more. It’s a diverse range of products, but they were all born out of, and specifically for, the flavor-loving palate of Southeast Louisiana.
Sweeping the Nation
Word got out. As people discovered and fell in love with the flavors of New Orleans, Zatarain’s expanded state-by-state to help supply a great American cuisine to every corner of the nation. Families from coast to coast now rely on Zatarain’s to bring big flavor to the table, enlivening dinnertime any night of the week. Since all of our products are held to our hometown’s high standard of flavor, cooking with Zatarain’s ensures there’s no room at the dinner table for bland or boring. Because life should be fun and flavorful, no matter where you live.
Committed to the People, Flavors and Culture of Our Home
Today Zatarain’s employs more than 150 people in our facilities located across the Mississippi River from Downtown New Orleans. We take great pride in our families, food and culture, and it shines through in everything we produce. Outside of the office, we work to repay the loyalty the people of New Orleans have always shown us – whether by assisting local charities, supporting our beloved New Orleans Saints or reinvesting in our city after Hurricane Katrina. The food, flavors and culture of New Orleans are rich and storied, and we are proud to bring a touch of it to their home.
