Preheat broiler. In a medium bowl combine onion, bell pepper, Worcestershire (if desired), salt and pepper. Add ground beef; mix well. Shape meat mixture into four 6- to 7-inch logs.
Place meat logs on the rack of an unheated broiler pan. Broil 3 to 4 inches from the heat for about 10 minutes or until done (160°F), turning once halfway through broiling.
Place meat logs in hot dog buns; top each with two cheese slice halves. If desired, broil about 1 minute more or until cheese starts to melt. Serve with desired toppings.
