In a medium saucepan, combine 1/4 cup broth, onion, pepper and garlic. Bring to a boil; reduce heat. Cover and cook for about 5 minutes or until tender. Stir in the remaining 3/4 cup broth, black beans, lime juice and oregano. Bring to a boil; reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
If desired, mash the bean mixture slightly with a potato masher. Stir in hot sauce. If desired, top with chopped tomato, cilantro and lime wedges.
