In a Dutch oven, combine grapes, pumpkin (or squash), figs, pear, raisins, vinegar, orange zest, mustard seeds, sugar, salt, cloves, pepper and water. Bring to boiling. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Uncover and simmer 45 minutes more (30 minutes if using dried figs) over medium-low heat or until thickened and almost all liquid has evaporated. Cool completely.
Transfer mixture to a blender or food processor. Cover and blend or process until almost smooth.
To store, cover and refrigerate for up to 1 week, or freeze in small freezer containers for up to 3 months. Before serving, sprinkle with nuts, if desired.
