Heat a gas or charcoal grill to medium heat. Brush plums and onion with sesame oil. Grill plums, cut sides down, on a grill rack directly over medium heat, 4 to 5 minutes. Add onions, cover, and grill 4 to 5 minutes or until plums and onion are tender and lightly charred, turning once.
When cool enough to handle, chop plums and onion. In a medium bowl combine plums, onion, orange peel, orange juice, mint, ginger, honey, salt and pepper. Serve with beef, lamb, pork or poultry.
