Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add ginger; sauté for 30 seconds. Add cranberries, sugar, orange juice, candied orange zest and allspice. Bring to a boil; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, for about 4 minutes or until cranberries burst and sauce is slightly thickened, stirring occasionally.
Transfer the mixture to a glass bowl. Cover and chill for 4 hours. (The sauce will continue to thicken during chilling.) Before serving, let stand at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
