Instructions
- Mix flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt in large bowl. Set aside. Beat sugar and butter in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla; mix well. Gradually beat in flour mixture on low speed until well mixed.
- Scoop dough into 1-inch balls (using a #70 cookie scoop). Place White Frosting Sugar in shallow dish. Roll dough in sugar to coat. Place on sheet pan and refrigerate 2 hours or until firm.
- Preheat oven to 400°F. Place dough balls 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.
- Bake 6 to 8 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool on baking sheets 1 minute. Remove to wire racks; cool completely.
Test Kitchen Tips:
-
To make cut-out cookies, do not scoop dough into balls. Shape dough into a flat disc and wrap with plastic wrap. Refrigerate as directed. Once dough is chilled, roll out on generously floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into shapes with your favorite cookie cutters. Place on ungreased baking sheets and bake as directed.
- Use your favorite canned frosting in any flavor or make your own using our Sugar Cookie Icing recipe.
- Dip, spread or pipe frosting onto cookies, as desired. Microwave 1 can of store-bought frosting in medium microwave-safe bowl on HIGH 20 to 30 seconds, stirring every 10 seconds, until frosting is pourable consistency. Dip tops of cookies into frosting, allowing excess to drip off. Place cookies on wire rack set over foil-lined baking sheet. Sprinkle generously with additional White Frosting Sugar. Let stand until frosting is set.
