Just because the leaves are changing and the weather's getting cooler, doesn't mean you can't fire up the grill. The fall harvest offers many vegetables that taste great on the grill. And while some fruits are out of season, autumn fruits are made for grilling. So don't pack up those BBQ tongs yet. Grilling season has been extended!
Gather your friends and grill up the season's bounty, which includes a wide variety of textures and flavors. Pork tenderloin is an ideal meat to grill in the fall, as it pairs wonderfully with harvest vegetables like acorn squash, sweet potatoes, mushrooms and pumpkin. For most of fall, you should be able to find in-season zucchini, eggplant and peppers.
Still craving the flavors of summer? Buy a can of pineapple chunks or rings for a refreshing twist on traditional meat dishes. In-season fruits include figs and pears, which taste amazing on the grill. Try to keep the skins on to hold the fruit together while grilling, or cut fruit into halves or
large wedges.
Slice or cube vegetables evenly and marinate in your favorite LAWRY’S® marinade. Toss on a sheet of aluminum foil or in a grill basket to prevent sticking, then place on the grill over medium heat. Or you can coat the grill rack with olive oil. Vegetables make tasty kabobs, too. You can grill acorn squash and sweet potatoes whole, and once they're done, add butter and brown sugar for a memorable autumn treat. Serve with heart-warming beverages like warm apple cider or hot chocolate.
If you're a football fan, grilling is perfect for tailgating. Grab some brats, hotdogs, even steaks, and your portable grill for an afternoon of socializing with friends and enjoying the extended grilling season-and the imminent victory of your home team.
