How to make Apple Butter

Our homemade apple butter is slow cooked in the oven so it is rich in caramelized flavor and texture. Delicious on toast, pancakes, waffles and biscuits.

INGREDIENTS

Servings: 24 (1-tablespoon)

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds apples, such as Braeburn, Jonathan or Gravenstein, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons McCormick® Apple Pie Spice
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

INSTRUCTIONS

  • 1 Place apples, apple cider, brown sugar, lemon juice and apple pie spice in large saucepan. Cook on medium heat 20 to 25 minutes or until apples are tender, stirring occasionally.
  • 2 Preheat oven to 325°F. Spoon applesauce into food processor or blender container; cover. Puree until smooth. Pour into 2-quart baking dish. Stir in vinegar and salt.
  • 3 Bake 1 hour or until dark brown and thickened, stirring halfway through cooking. Store in refrigerator.
