In just 10 minutes, you too can cook traditional fried green tomatoes. Sliced firm green tomatoes, dipped in egg and coated with Zatarain’s Crispy Southern Fish Fri and fried until golden – a party appetizer delight. Serve with remoulade for just the right look.
Vegetable oil, for frying
1/4 cup water
1 cup ZATARAIN'S® Crispy Southern Fish Fri®
4 green tomatoes, cut into 1/3-inch thick slices
Pour oil into deep heavy skillet, filling no more than 1/3 full. Heat on medium-high heat to 350°F.
Beat eggs and water in shallow bowl. Place Fish-Fri in shallow dish. Dip tomato slices in egg mixture. Coat in Fish-Fri, pressing lightly; shake off excess.
Fry tomato slices in batches, 2 to 3 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Season with salt, if desired.
Test Kitchen Tip: Make sure oil returns to 350°F before frying additional batches of tomato slices.
Serving Suggestion: Serve with remoulade sauce, if desired.
