Spice check!
So, my "hoarder" girlfriend does not believe that spices expire! So, after much temptation I decided to clean out her pantry. And not to my surprise, I found tins. One was a cream of tartar dated May 1977! I was 7 when that was bought. She has many more which I'm sure we could sell at an antique store for probably what a replacement would cost new! Cost on tin was .29 cents. -- Allison

Glad I found this website
I just threw a bunch of spices away! I am keeping my 1977 tin of marjoram. If it's not collectible, the fact I was a freshman in high school when it was made means it's a spice I salvaged out of my late grandparents' home when I was a college junior and should be kept for sentimental reasons. -- Ellen Porter

The Day I Buy Spices
Over the years, I never checked the expiration dates. I must have tossed at least 30 containers in the trash last year. Even with dates stamped on the product, sometimes the date fades away so the day I buy new spices, I take a waterproof marker & write the date of exp. or the date I buy them and put it on the label. It's a lifesaver. -- Sharon Le Fernberg

The older, the better
I have cloves, allspice and pumpkin pie spice from copyright 1974 and thyme from c 1977. My sister assures me that these 40 or so year old canisters are now collectible even if the spices in them are not. -- JM Anonymous

I've been through 2 husbands..........
I saw this site and immediately knew it was for me. The very FIRST spice I checked was from 1974....today is 12/15/2011. I got rid of 21 jars that were over 20 years old and have moved with me 5 times!! What a riot. -- DeeDee
