All You Need
2 large onions*
3/4 cup cold water
Vegetable Oil or Shortening
CUT onions into ¼" slices and separate into rings.
COMBINE 1 cup of batter mix with 3/4 cup ice cold water. Stir until smooth.
DIP onion rings into batter; shake off excess. Heat oil to 375ºF. Add onions. Fry 1-2 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and drain.
* To use entire package, follow above directions using 4 large onions and 1½ cups ice cold water.
For thicker coating, moisten onion rings in water and lightly coat in remaining dry mix before dipping into prepared batter.
Frying Suggestion: Pour oil or melt shortening in large heavy skillet, saucepan or deep-fryer. Fill pan no more than half full with oil, but deep enough for food to float while frying; avoid overcrowding.
