Slow Cookers Red Wine Braised Roast

Cut up and refrigerate the vegetables for this slow cooked braised beef roast the evening before so that in the morning the preparation will be a snap.

Serves: Makes 8 servings.

  • Place roast and vegetables in slow cooker.

  • Mix Seasoning Mix, water and tomato paste until well blended. Pour over roast and vegetables. Cover.

  • Cook 8 hours on LOW or 4 hours on HIGH. Remove roast and vegetables and place on serving platter. Skim excess fat from sauce before serving.

Cooking tip

Slow Cooker Tips:
•For 6-quart or larger slow cooker or when cooking on LOW, place vegetables on bottom or sides of slow cooker.
•For best results, do not remove cover during cooking.

Red Wine Braised Short Ribs: Use 3 pounds boneless beef short ribs in place of the roast.

    I'm a guy at the intermediate cooking level. Suggestions: When serving two, cut four medium potatoes into smallish pieces and add to the other veggies. Double water to two cups. My grandmother always added a tbsp. of cider vinegar to her recipe to help tenderize the meat and acidify the gravy, giving it a "bite" and rounding out the gravy bouquet. In the name of thrift, use t*o paste in the toothpaste-tube packaging. Sear the meat on both sides in oilive oil in a very hot frying pan before putting it into the slow cooker. Big fiance points for having dinner nearly ready when she arrived!

    I was all excited to cook this recipe, it looks so delicious, until I saw that you need an envelope for the main mix. I cook with actual wine and spices, and was expecting this. Disappointed... Any suggestions?
