What does it mean if a McCormick Gourmet Collection® bottle is labeled “100% Organic”?

McCormick recognizes the USDA Federal Standards governing the labeling of "organic" foods, and will follow this standard for any organic products we market.

“100% Organic” means that the product must contain 100% organically produced ingredients with no pesticides or animal fertilizers used. An organic product is obtained through adherence to organic standards at the agricultural production level, which must be maintained through handling to the point of final sale, in order for the final product to be labeled and/or marketed as organic.

What is the shelf life of McCormick® Gourmet products?

The shelf life listed below is approximate and only if stored properly. It is best to follow the "Best By" dates on the products. McCormick® has used “Best By” dates on our spices, herbs, extracts and recipe mixes since 2004. All other McCormick® items started using "Best By" dates on or before 2007.

If your product does not have a "Best By" date it is beyond our recommended shelf life.

• Leafy Herbs - 1 to 3 years
• Gourmet Blends - 1 to 2 years
• Gourmet Recipe Mixes - 2 years
• Kitchen Basics Stocks – 2 years

Proper Storage Tips
• Store herbs and spices in a tightly capped container.
• Keep spices and herbs away from heat, moisture and direct sunlight. Avoid storing over the stove, dishwasher, sink or near a window.
• Store members of the red pepper family, including paprika and chili powder, in the refrigerator to retain their color and freshness.
• McCormick does not recommend freezing as freezing does not extend the shelf life of dried herbs and spices. Repeatedly removing the bottles from the freezer may cause condensation to form and accelerate the loss of flavor and aroma.

How does McCormick® Gourmet label the top eight allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, eggs, fish, wheat, soy, and shellfish)?

McCormick® follows all government regulations regarding product labeling. When any of these top eight allergens is present in any quantity, it will always be listed in our product ingredient statement. We encourage you to read the ingredient statement on your package at the time of purchase to ensure accurate, up to date information.

Pure spices and herbs will not have ingredient statements. The only ingredient present is the original spice or herb, to which nothing else has been added.

How does McCormick® label for gluten?

McCormick® uses "Plain English" allergen labeling to communicate our product ingredients to our consumers. Gluten is listed as "wheat", "barley", “rye”, “oats”, “spelt”, “triticale”, “kamut” or any protein containing part thereof and hybridized strains of these grains in our ingredient statements. This labeling policy adheres to the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA) of 2004.

If a product does not have an ingredient statement, it is a pure spice or herb with nothing added and contains no added glutens. In addition, our retail extracts and Food Colors are gluten free. Currently, we do not offer a list of our products that do not contain glutens. We encourage you to read the ingredient statement on your package at the time of purchase to ensure accurate, up to date information.

Our Gourmet Garlic Powder is sourced from California.

How does McCormick® ensure the safety and quality of its products?

Can I freeze the Kitchen Basics® stocks?

Yes. Freeze unused stock within 7 days of opening. Do not freeze in the original container. It works well to freeze in ice cube trays. You can then put frozen cubes into freezer bags. For optimum flavor, use frozen stock within 3 months.

How long are Kitchen Basics® stocks good for after opening?

When stored properly in the refrigerator, our Kitchen Basics® stock will be good for up to seven days after opening.

Can I microwave in the Kitchen Basic stock carton?

No. The carton is made with a foil layer in between the corrugated material, so do not microwave.

Is there MSG in the Kitchen Basics Stock?

We do not add MSG to our stocks. But vegetables like tomatoes, potatoes, peas and mushrooms have naturally occurring glutamates that would not be declared.
